The heat packs featured on this page are designed for the BITTEN. For Personal heat packs, please see Hot Hands-2 & Toasti Toes.
Disposable Heat Pack Overview:
The disposable heat pack is one of the two different heat pack options we offer for the Bitten. Two disposable heat packs are included with every Bitten purchase.
The disposable pack allows you to have a heater ready to go at any time or temperature. They are very convenient and relatively inexpensive. They can be stored in any environment and have a shelf life of 6 years. They stay warm for up to 18 hours of continuous use. You can subdivide the 18 hours of heat duration by placing them back into the resealable ziplock bag (included with every Bitten). In the airtight ziplock bag they shut off, when you pull them out, they start up again. One pack can be used several times with this method. The number of additional times varies with usage and conditions. Additional heat packs can be purchased here at the Bitten Store.
Using them in the Bitten:
Remove the disposable heat pack from the airtight bag, knead until you feel heat, then insert into one of the inner pockets of the Bitten, wrap the Bitten around the bit and secure it with the velcro flap. After you finish saddling your horse, remove the Bitten and your bit will be nice and warm and ready to insert into your horse’s mouth. One heat pack should be plenty, but for additional heat add a second pack to your Bitten.
Note: The disposable heating packs take a little longer to heat up (but they will keep you warm for the entire ride). Bring some extra heat packs with you for emergencies and friends on your rides.
Use as Hand & Body Warmer:
The Bitten can now be converted into the hand and body warmer. To do this, just “reverse fold” the Bitten so that the disposable heat packs are facing outward. It will be nice and toasty to warm your hands back up after saddling your horse. Toss it in your pocket for the rest of the ride. Also, depending on your hand size, you may remove the disposable heat packets from the Bitten and insert them into your gloves. If they're too large to comfortably fit in your gloves, you can use the Hot Hands-2 as a smalller hand warming option.
If you attach the lanyard (located in the small inside zipper pocket of the Bitten), you can hang the Bitten around your neck and slip it under your coat as a body warmer. On the coldest day you will be snuggy warm with the Bitten under your coat.
The Bitten also makes a great hand and body warmer for other outside events. Take it to football games, hockey games, skiing, skating, hiking, etc. and stay toasty warm.
Once you are finished with the disposable heat packet, you can either throw it away, or better yet; it can be recycled by pouring the natural contents (iron powder, salt, activated carbon, and vermiculite) onto the ground and putting the fabric packet into a recycling bin.
